How do you reconcile your feelings with your faith?

Muslims need to turn to Allah's guidance to cut through the confusion and lies.

PLEASE NOTE:
Not all articles on this site represent the views of the StraightWay Foundation. Only those written by members do so, whereas others are provided only due to their containing some useful information or advice. We do not accept responsibility for any inaccuracy found in such articles.

The StraightWay Foundation was established in Ramadan 1423/2002 to provide information and advice for Muslims affected by same-sex attractions (SSAs). While there are various ways of understanding and dealing with these attractions, we believe that success in this life and the Hereafter depends on following Allah's guidance, as found in the Qur'an and the teachings of all God's Prophets.

Islam promotes the beauty of the creation of the male-female pair, which is the basis for humanity's growth. Homosexual relationships go against the natural order and harm both the individuals involved and society at large. They have been forbidden by the Creator, as detailed in both the Qur'an and the Bible.

Nowadays, however, there is a strong agenda (especially in the West) to promote same-sex relationships as being equal to inter-sex ones in terms of health and morality. Television programmes, for example, are becoming increasingly 'liberal', exposing the public to more explicit images as well as messages. As Muslims, we decry this degeneration, which only demonstrates the lack of moral grounding our society has.

Most worryingly, we note that many Muslims - especially the youth - have become fooled by this media onslaught, resulting in inner turmoil and confusion. On the one hand, these young Muslims believe that homosexuality is a perversion, and on the other, they have a crush on someone of the same sex. The media 'informs' them: "If you fancy someone of the same sex, then you're gay".

For many, the only way to cool the burning guilt inside is to abandon their belief in Islam, while others settle for twisting the religion's teachings to paint their deviant actions as acceptable. There have also been organisations set up in various countries to promote the strange concept of the "Gay Muslim". While still small and insignificant, they seem to be becoming more vocal and well-known.

The wider Muslim community has so far ignored these deviants and liars: perhaps the best strategy to begin with. However, increasing numbers of young people are becoming confused by their messages. It is now imperative that we face up to these groups and show them definitively what Islam has to say, as derived from the Qur'an and Sunnah by those qualified to do so.

The StraightWay Foundation calls on Muslims who feel same-sex attractions to strive to understand and deal with them as Muslims. We invite you to follow Allah's guidance above your own desires. Satan wishes to drag us into the Hellfire with him, but we must reject his call. Instead, we ask Allah to "Guide us to the Straight Way".
